Cam Newton is one of the most talented quarterbacks to ever play in the game. The Carolina Panthers drafted him as the first overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and he went on to have a successful career in the league. However, Newton has been out of the league since 2021 following his average outing, but the 6’5″ QB believes he is being kept out of the league for his fashion and lifestyle choices.
During his recent appearance on Josina Anderson’s Undefined podcast, the former league MVP quarterback Cam Newton alleged that some teams have hinted at him getting a clean cut.
“It’s been hindered. And I’m not changing,” he said. “People have hinted towards to say like, ‘Cam, we want you to go back to the 2015 clean-cut Cam. But that was a different me. Right now, where I’m at, it’s about embracing who I am.”
“There was hints toward it,” Newton said. “And I gained a lot of great counsel from a lot of people. And the thing that is always mentioned is, ‘Yo, Cam, you scaring people the way you look.'”
Newton played as the starting QB of the Panther for 10 years, where he won 3 Pro Bowl nods, 1 first-team All-Pro recognition, and won 1 league MVP award. He then played with the New England Patriots for one season in 2020 before returning to the Panthers in 2021. Newton has been out of the league since 2021 following his not-so-good outing.
Cam Newton believes Black players not getting the same treatment as their White counterparts
During a recent episode of Josina Anderson’s podcast, the 3-time Pro Bowl QB Cam Newton alleged that he was hinted by teams to get rid of his dreadlocks to earn a roster spot in the league. But he believes White people are not getting the same treatment.
“‘Yo, like I’m not gonna name names, but there’s other quarterbacks that’s in the league that don’t look like me, but they got long hair. They don’t scare them, do they?’ So, we can go tit for tat, tat for tit with it. But I would just turn and nod to that and say, ‘That’s not the reason why I’m not in the NFL,'” said Newton. The 33-year-old QB has previously mentioned that he is not going to cut his hair until one of his daughters gets married.
On the business side of things, the Panthers icon reportedly turned down one team’s offer last season. He has claimed that he is willing to backup certain quarterbacks in the league and is currently waiting for an offer.
