Cam Newton may not be playing football, but he knows how to stay in the headlines week after week. A video surfaced on Sunday, showing the former NFL quarterback fighting members of Top Shelf Performance.

It’s an annual 7-on-7 football team participating in a WeBall tournament in his native Atlanta. The video shows Newton wearing his trademark custom-made hat, being shoved by at least three to four people atop steps before pushing him away.

They dragged the ex-Carolina Panthers man to the fence, throwing relentless punches. Throughout the entire altercation, Newton appears to be only defending himself rather than throwing a few blows of his own against men who grew in number.

The video is only 30 seconds long, and it cuts off after the police intervene. They split the two parties away from each other before someone got seriously hurt.

Why was Cam Newton attacked?

The Auburn alumnus C1N is an organization founded in 2021. Its primary focus is to help youth who want to play and learn football. They hold training camps, providing them with guidance on making their skills better and sharper. Newton’s website mentions that the 7-on-7 is the program’s highest level to test out players’ skills. It holds various tournaments all over the country, involving as many young players as possible.

However, why a few of the participants suddenly jumped on Cam Newton is still anyone’s guess at this point. But FOX Sports indicated that one possible reason could be a Newton video before the event.

If you beat my[Cam Newton] team—15U C1N Red or 18UC1N Platinum—I will pay every single player on the team. Tell me who's doing that. If that ain't putting your money where your mouth is, I don't know what to say.

Again, this isn’t a definitive proof of the incident; it is only a hypothetical guess. But to jump on someone for merely stating what’s on their mind is a bit much. More so when that person is a 6-foot-6 former NFL MVP quarterback. Robert Griffin III summed up the scenario really well.

Cam Newton led Auburn to a Natty [CFP Championship] with 1 O-lineman that started an NFL game and no one else recorded an NFL reception, rush attempt, or pass attempt. He’s used to being a one-man army, so you are delulu if you thought some guys jumping him was going to phase him. The hat didn’t even move.

All eyes are on Newton’s podcast. That’s his personal space, where most of the truth bombs get dropped.
