After letting go of Deshaun Watson, the Houston Texans took a risky move when they decided to go forward with a rookie quarterback as their starter- CJ Stroud. And though Waston seemed to have settled well in the Cleveland Browns, it sure seems overwhelming to see your replacement thrive with your former team. And that was the question of Cam Newton that left Waston in quite an awkward position!
There couldn’t have been a better time to ask Watson this question. Considering how the rookie outperformed his team in the wild-card round of the playoffs and advanced to the divisional round with a 45-14 victory. Unfortunately, Watson couldn’t be a part of the game as he was recovering from surgery, but he sure appeared to give Stroud a death stare in the match.
During a recent episode of his podcast QB Unplugged, former MVP Newton, who appeared as a guest pressed on the question at Watson, who finally said, he practically gave the keys to his hometown to the young talent.
Watson said:

Watson’s response sounded a bit odd, considering how he got an 11-game suspension and mandatory counseling session before his exit due to a trade request, and allegations of sexual misconduct. And how after the chaotic breakup with the franchise, the quarterback with only three words- “Business is Business.” So it sure wasn’t a hand-in-hand goodbye.

While talking about the young talent that led the Texans to end their four-year playoff drought, QB Watson revealed he has previously trained with him and also shared the same agent. He also sounded quite genuine as he praised Stroud, expressing he sure is somewhat happy for him.
As they hit the subject of the wild-card game, the Browns’ quarterback also acknowledged the level of pressure and the wave of emotions that the Texans rookie would’ve been experiencing, now that he had advanced the team to the divisional round.
