“He was the equivalent to Muhammad Ali in football”: Skip Bayless reckons the ‘END’ is near for Cam Newton
Muhammad Ali and Cam Newton
Cameron Jerrell Newton is undoubtedly a star athlete. The NFL career leader in quarterback rushing touchdowns made a comeback to his former franchise in the 2021 season. After spending as many as 9 years with the Panthers, he went to the Patriots in 2020.
However, he joined the Panthers yet again in 2021 and everyone expected him to regain his lost glory. It would be fair to say that the season turned out to be quite a disappointment for the Panthers and for Newton and now, Cam’s future in the league isn’t looking very bright.
“He inevitably says something that outrages half the people”: Skip Bayless on Cam Newton
Reflecting on the Newton situation and the impact he has had on the league, Skip Bayless had a few things to say on ‘The Undisputed.’ Skip claimed that Newton is indeed a rare talent, after all, winning the MVP isn’t the easiest of the tasks to accomplish in the league.
However, he went to add that his supreme self confidence which was his biggest strength, became his biggest weakness because “he is so full of himself, in a good way, that it began to turn people off, in a bad way.” Skip claimed he was executing kind of a solo act instead of being the team leader.
Shannon also had his say during the show. “A lot of antics which Cam Newton did after the game, Joe Burrow is celebrated for doing the same, having a cigar, having a big chain and all of that,” he claimed. To add to this, Skip went to say that Cam was not born to be a backup QB, “he is too Cam to be a backup but every time he does a podcast, he inevitably says something that outrages half the people.”
Skip then went on to claim that Cam was the equivalent of Muhammad Ali in football where your body just says I can’t do it anymore and added that his aura is actually too big to be a backup QB. “He is knows he is a starting QB, he knows he belongs there,” Skip said.
It will be interesting to see how things pan out for Cam who once blew everyone away with his performances, but is now struggling to keep going.
