Lately, former NFL quarterback Cam Newton has been very vocal about how the New York Jets‘ season is going. Is it stemming from the fact that there were credible reports that he was interested in joining the Big Apple franchise in the absence of Aaron Rodgers?

Well, the former Panthers man has brushed off all the chatter, but that hasn’t stopped him from keeping an eye on how the Jets are progressing. Especially with backup Zach Wilson‘s continuous struggle to lead the team to victory, there have been constant talks of a replacement. They currently sit on 4 wins from 8 games but barely scrape past most of them.

However, Newton believes that Robert Saleh‘s team is on the right track.

I guess we're going to have to wait and see shi*. We all want to see that, because patience is running thin.
Newton explained on his 4th and 1′ YouTube show.

The 34-year-old claimed that he wasn’t keeping up, but then went on to praise the Jets for sticking in without Rodgers.

I haven't really been paying attention to the Jets, but I was hella surprised when I saw them on Monday night football, and they were four and three. I was like, Damn! They are still in the chase.

Cam Newton praised the New York Jets’ defense

Despite the subpar start to the season, one aspect on which every football analyst would agree is that the Quinnen Williams, John Franklin-MyersMekhi Becton, and Laken Tomlinson-led Jets defense is a force to be reckoned with. Add Max Mitchell, Billy Turner, and rookie Joe Tippman, and it is comfortably in the top five in the NFL.

They have been called into question even during the offseason, none other than by coach Saleh himself. But they have faced opponents such as the Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants for just 15.0 points per game.

Even though Newton said he wasn’t paying attention, he was impressed by the rigidity the Jets have shown.

The defense for the New York Jets is biting, and I mean, they stink. Anytime you have 13 takeaways from the defense, that's very impressive.

Then there are the dynamic cornerbacks Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed, who combined have 69 tackles and five pass defenses. Quincy Williams clinched the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for October. He and linebacker C. J. Mosley share the team lead with 71 tackles each.

It’s the offense that just can’t keep up. The Jets’ offense has put up 18.0 points while sitting second last in passing offense with 164.3 yards. If, hypothetically, the Jets do approach Cam Newton to take over, there’s no guarantee that it will improve, despite his years of experience. But then again, they did add veteran Trevor Siemian, who hasn’t taken a single snap till now.
