On Saturday, the Dallas Cowboys, led by their star quarterback Dak Prescott, went against the NFC North division champions Detroit Lions in their week 17 matchup. During the highly-anticipated game, the Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb tied Michael Irvin‘s single-season reception record in the franchise’s history with a 92-yard touchdown catch and eventually broke the record.
During the 1st quarter of the game, the Cowboys were trailing by 3 points and were facing a crucial 3rd down and 13 from their own 8-yard line. Prescott, who took the snap from the shotgun position, was immediately met with pressure from the Lions’ defensive line.
However, Prescott managed to evade the Lions linebacker Derrick Barnes and avoid a safety. He then scrambled to his right and threw a remarkable pass to CeeDee Lamb in motion. Lamb completed the catch near the midfield and took it all the way to the house for Dallas’ first touchdown of the game. Check out the footage of the remarkable play attached below.
Following the Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb’s remarkable 92-yard touchdown catch, the owner Jerry Jones could be seen celebrating from the suite with his family and Dallas’ executives.
With that catch, Lamb tied the Cowboys legend Michael Irvin’s reception record in a single season with 111 catches in the ongoing season. Irvin did it way back in 1995 when the Cowboys eventually went on to win the Super Bowl championship under the leadership of QB Troy Aikman.

Furthermore, Lamb eventually went on to break Irvin’s record in the Cowboys’ next drive when he caught a 4-yard pass from Dak Prescott, but he fumbled that ball in the endzone, leading to the Cowboys losing a chance to extend their lead. Nonetheless, the catch was completed and Lamb is now the record holder for most single-season receptions as well as receiving yards in franchise history with 112 catches and 1651 yards, with one game remaining.
The Cowboys are currently battling against the Lions to secure a crucial victory in week 17, which could help them win the NFC East if the Eagles lost at least one of their remaining 2 games. On the flip side, the Lions are trying to win the game which could help them secure the No.1 seed in the NFC playoffs picture.
Nonetheless, both the Cowboys and the Lions have already booked their spot in the upcoming NFL postseason, regardless of their week 17 result. But securing the No.1 seed or the division title could help the teams in the playoffs as they come with some benefits.
