In another unfortunate incident of an NFL player involved in a case of domestic violence, former NFL OL Chad Wheeler has been convicted on two counts of domestic violence. The charge stemmed from a 2021 incident wherein he was accused of pinning his then-girlfriend Alleah Taylor.
Chad Wheeler was accused of pinning Taylor down and choking her twice until she lost consciousness. At the time, Wheeler was a backup tackle on the Seattle Seahawks and after his girlfriend regained consciousness, he was surprised at the fact that she was still alive. As a result of the attack, Taylor suffered a fractured humerus, and a dislocated elbow.
A King County Jury found the offensive lineman guilty of first-and second-degree assault/domestic violence. He was acquitted on one count of unlawful imprisonment. Wheeler was let go by the Seahawks after the incident came to light and has since been without a job.
Alleah Taylor expressed happiness over boyfriend Chad Wheeler being found guilty
Wheeler pleaded not guilty and justified his actions by claiming he experienced a “manic episode” as he has bipolar disorder. His girlfriend, however, did not believe that the cause of the assault had anything to do with his state of mind.
ESPN contacted a spokesperson from the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the jury came to the conclusion that Wheeler “used force or means likely to result in death.” This allows the state to seek that he be imprisoned for at least 5 years for first-degree assault charges.
