The 2024 NFL offseason hasn’t even started yet, let alone the regular season but there’s already a favorite to win the renewed ‘Coach of the Year’ award for the 2024-25 season. It’s none other than Jim Harbaugh, who made a dazzling return to the NFL as the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.
After a victorious college football season winning the National Championship title with Michigan, Harbaugh made his way back to the NFL and signed a five-year contract deal with $80 million. Heading into the offseason, HC Harbaugh holds the top rank by oddsmakers to win COTY for the second time in his coaching career.
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Chargers’ new coach is the early favorite with +550 odds, followed by the Green Bay Packers HC Matt LaFleur with +800 as second-favorite.
Interestingly, Harbaugh isn’t the only new head coach on the list. Atlanta Falcons, for whom the legendary coach Bill Belichick interviewed, new hire Raheem Morris is the third-favorite to win the prominent award with +1000 odds.
After a humiliating performance in the 2023 regular season with 5-12, the Chargers are approaching the next season with rebuilding themselves. And who else can take the job other than former Michigan head coach, Harbaugh, who had an astonishing record as head coach in the league?
By making Harbaugh the early favorite for COTY, the oddsmakers believe can coach the team to have a miraculous season, whereas the Chargers have the seventh-best odds of +1300 to win the AFC and 12th-best for the Super Bowl.
Who replaced Jim Harbaugh in Michigan?
As Harbaugh departs Michigan with a remarkable record of 89-25, the Wolverines have promoted their offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore to take over Harbaugh’s job.
When Harbaugh faced suspension for three games, he was replaced by Moore resulting in three late seasons victory. Harbaugh also cast his vote to Moore, as the next man to lead the Michigan. Harbaugh told The Detroit News:
But not a better man to coach the team than Sherrone Moore. He has my vote, my support wholeheartedly. I feel like it’s in great hands.Jim Harbaugh said
According to ESPN, Moore has signed a five-year contract deal with the Wolverine, including an annual salary of $5 million with a two percent raise every year. He’ll also earn $500,000 after completion of each contract year and can make up to $3.5 million per year in bonuses.
