Despite the success of the Kansas City Chiefs, a few things have been concerning them. There are speculations that Chris Jones, the defensive commander of the team might announce the end of his time at the Kansas City Chiefs. There are rumors doing the rounds that the Chiefs’ DT is not happy with his present situation.
This is not something very new with Jones. Last season, he was allegedly unhappy with his status at the team. Due to his growing agony, he took himself off from the first few games. The DT wanted a new contract that the Chiefs were hesitant to give and hence he decided not to play.
However, the complications were resolved in a few days and Jones came back to the field. Like last season, Charles Omenihu, another Chiefs defender, believes everything will be resolved quickly. In an interview with NFL Network, Omenihu claimed that he wished Jones to stay forever in the Kansas City Chiefs. He prayed for the longevity of Jones in the squad.
The Chiefs defender noted in a conversation with the NFL Network:
I hope that everything works out and that he's a [Kansas City] Chief for the rest of his career.Charles Omenihu said
Omenihu later praised the leadership qualities of Chris Jones. He said that Jones helped the Chiefs to exhibit a strong character on the gridiron.
Charles Omenihu recently asked for a new contract
Charles Omenihu who is busy this offseason recovering from a torn Achilles, believed that he is worthy of a new contract. He believed that he had done enough to ask for a new contract. He emphasized the importance that he holds in the team. He started this push via his social media and later he opened up on the same on the NFL Network interview.
Omenihu had the following to say:
Seven sacks in 11 games and then the sack in the championship game to kind of spark off the wave of defensive plays. Finished second on the team in sacks and didn’t have the first six games to catch up with George [Karlaftis] and Chris [Jones]. I think I did, I think the tape speaks for itself. I think I showed dominant run play and then with the pass rush, inside and outside and just winning one-on-ones, creating turnovers, being the spark and, like, the energy plays they wanted me to be when I got there.Charles Omenihu said
After the success in consecutive Super Bowls, the Chiefs might witness a change in the team’s structure. Multiple players can leave, while new faces can join and the Chiefs might go through even a revamp in the coming season.
