“I’m a top-3 NFL receiver,” Chase Claypool exudes immense confidence ahead of his third season for the Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers finished second in the AFC North division last season, and could not capitalise on their playoff spot finish as they had to eventually bow out in the NFL wild-card round against the mighty Kansas City Chiefs. They are looking to get better returns from the upcoming season and their star receiver, Chase Claypool has made confident statements about his and his franchise’s fortunes.

The 23-year-old wide receiver claimed himself as one of the Top-3 wide receivers in the whole of the NFL while speaking on the I Am Athlete podcast this week. Heading into his 3rd season in the NFL, Chase Claypool is confident that 2022 will be his year and has set himself a target of 1,300 yards and 10 touchdowns.

With Ben Roethlisberger having retired, the wide receiver will have to adapt exceedingly well with whoever the Pittsburgh Steelers decide to be their starting quarterback next season. With Ben Roethlisberger last season, Claypool had 59 catches for 860 yards and a pair of scores.

Mitchell Trubisky might be the obvious choice at the moment, but 2022 NFL draft pick, Kenny Pickett or Mason Rudolph could also have an outside chance, and for Chase Claypool to achieve his personal goals needs to have a good understanding with his quarterback.

“I’m going to say, my second year, I was a better player than I was my first year,” Claypool said, via Pro Football Talk. “The plays just didn’t work out, right? Some of the plays just didn’t go my way. I didn’t make some plays I need to make. But as a football player, understanding the game, knowing what to do, knowing where to be, I was better. So I’m going to be better this year.”

“And just like you said, understanding I’m not normal — I feel that way when I’m on the field. I know for a fact I am not like the rest of the guys in the NFL. I know I’m a top-five receiver. I know I’m a top-three receiver.”
