Donovan Smith rubbed salt on the wounds of Roquan Smith after the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship game on Sunday. It was a chippy and tense game from the start to the end at M&T Bank Stadium.
Before the game, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce threw away Ravens kicker Justin Tucker‘s helmet, which was in the way of Patrick Mahomes‘ practice. That energy carried over into the game, and once the Chiefs secured the 17-point victory over the Ravens, booking a ticket to the Super Bowl, that also carried over to the locker room.
After reaching the locker room, Chiefs offensive tackle Donovan Smith started Instagram Live. By the looks of the clip, it appears that the 30-year-old went live, specifically to taunt Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith.
Oh, look, he's sad. Look at this sad a**. Be sad. Be sad. F***ing sad. ' Talking all that s***. He sad. Go cry. My fault, my language. I gotta check it.Smith said
This did come as a surprise to many. Well, there’s no connection between the two players besides sharing the same last name. Yet it’s nothing new because winners get the spoils and bragging rights.
Why did Donovan Smith troll Roquan Smith?
It’s still only hypothetical, but maybe the Penn State graduate had a score to settle with the Ravens’ pass rusher. A few days before the AFC title game, the 26-year-old wrote off Mahomes completely. He claimed that it would be a cakewalk for the Ravens’ defense to stop the Chiefs quarterback.
The Ravens’ side of Smith said,
We're going to get it done. That's the message. It's not about, 'Oh, this.' He puts his pants on just like any other quarterback. Yes, he's an elite quarterback, but at the end of the day, we're an elite defense.
No wonder both Smiths were at each other’s throats during the game. However, Mahomes had the last laugh in the end. The Ravens only managed one (Jadeveon Clowney) and a half-sack each from Justin Madubuike and Michael Pierce. The 28-year-old finished the game with 30 completions from 39 for 241 yards and one touchdown pass to Travis Kelce.
The Chiefs will now travel to Las Vegas on February 11 to face the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, who recorded a 17-point comeback win over the Detroit Lions. It will be Mahomes’ fourth Bowl appearance in six years as a starter.
