The NFL is hard. No matter how good the team is, winning in the NFL is tough. To go unbeaten for an entire regular season is something only a handful of team have been able to accomplish. To have a 20-0 season is almost impossible. No team has even been able to accomplish that feat. However, Fox Sports analyst and Kansas City Chiefs fan Nick Wright predicted the Chiefs to go undefeated this season. That prediction went nowhere as the Chiefs lost their first game of the season against the Detroit Lions.
Co-host of the First Things First show on Fox Sports, Chris Broussard heard that prediction, saw the game, and went on to annihilate Wright on the show. During the latest episode of the show, Broussard took this opportunity and have a go at Wright and his bold prediction when asked if Wright or Patrick Mahomes should be more embarrassed about the loss.
“This may be the worst prediction. This may take the cake.” Broussard said on the show. “20 and 0?! How about 1-0? Can we get to 1-0? Never a Doubt?! How about never a chance! No [Travis] Kelce no problem?! How about no Kelce no offense!” Broussard further told Wright that he lost the right to use Broussard’s bad predictions against him. “Nick, from this moment on I don’t want to hear another joke about the Nets, the Clippers, Jimmy G. You’ve lost that right!”
The Chiefs were favorites to win the game against the Lions. However, with Travis Kelce out due to injury and Chris Jones still holding out because of his contract extension delay, the Chiefs could not get anything going on offense. They fell to the Lions 21-20 and in the process ruined Nick Wright’s weekend. They will look to bounce back against the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 17.
Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes loses for the first time in week 1 of his career
Patrick Mahomes is on pace to have a legendary NFL career. He has already won everything as a player in his young career. Widely regarded as the best football player in the world at the moment, he is expected to reach ‘GOAT’ by the end of his career. He came into week 1 of the 2023 NFL season as the best season-opening game QB in the league.
However, Mahomes lost a week 1 matchup for the first time in his career on Thursday against the Detroit Lions. He threw an interception for the first time in a season-opening game. Before Thursday’s game against the Lions, Mahomes had a passer rating of 136.9 and had thrown 18 TDs and 0 INTs. He finished the game with 226 passing yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT.
The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to defend their Super Bowl title this season. Two of their best players in Travis Kelce and Chris Jones did not play against the Lions and the Chiefs missed them dearly. Mahomes and the Chiefs will bounce back but this was a rather tame end to a great winning streak for him.
