Dak Prescott, the quarterback Jerry Jones believed to take the Dallas Cowboys to the Super Bowl this 2023-24 NFL season, unfortunately, failed to do so after a tragic loss against the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round of playoffs.

Ever since then, there has been too much drama on social media as the Cowboys’ players’  family members got involved. CeeDee Lamb’s mother, Micah Parsons‘ brother Terrence Jr., and Prescott’s brother Tad had a vocal discussion about the quarterback’s performance and salary. And taking the word of ESPN’s Chris Canty, the drama will only grow, considering the Cowboys’ offseason scenarios and the family drama.

In the recent ESPN’s Get Up episode, Canty expressed his uncertainty about Dallas’ leadership as the franchise decided to go forward with Mike McCarthy for another season, despite the apparent lack of credibility seen this season. He raised his eyebrows at Jones’ decision concerning the head coach position, especially when they had the offseason picture of paying Parsons, Lamb, and Prescott in the top positions.

Canty said:

When I’m looking at this situation, I think the noise is only going to get louder. The families, those conversations that they’re having in private, that stuff is bubbling to the surface on social media and I don’t know how those players walk that back and so I think that’s only going to breed more tension moving forward.

Up until the playoffs this season, the Cowboys roster seemed quite intact with a feeling of brotherhood among the players. However, there might be a shift of emotions in the locker room but fans wouldn’t know that till the offseason.

Dak Prescott’s contract extension looming by a thread

As quarterback Prescott led his team to back-to-back victories in the regular season, there was a lot of talk about his potential contract extension for next season. However, considering how things ended this postseason, a major question for the offseason would be whether the franchise decided to move forward with the contract extension.

The Cowboys have a plate full of things they would need to sort out in the offseason, including Precott’s contract situation amidst the whole drama.

If the quarterback didn’t sign the contract extension, given his contract expires in March 2025, the specified 2026 void-year amount will be transferred into 2025. After that, the QB would get $54.99 million against his salary cap of 2025.
