The Jacksonville Jaguars, led by their star QB Trevor Lawrence, are looking to defend their AFC South title in the upcoming season. However, they suffer a minor setback as one of their cornerbacks, Chris Claybrooks, continues to have a horrible year. Claybrooks recently got arrested on domestic violence charges for a second time this year.
On Friday evening, the 4th-year cornerback Chris Claybrooks was arrested for misdemeanor domestic battery and false imprisonment according to a report from NewsJax4. He was scheduled to appear in court on Saturday. According to the report, the alleged incident in question happened way back on September 22, 2022, just days before the Jacksonville-based football team played a road game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The alleged victim claimed that the two of them had an altercation and the victim tried to leave the residence, but she alleges that Claybrooks grabbed her by her torso and stopped the victim from leaving the house by physically blocking the exit. Furthermore, some reports also suggest that the alleged incident was caught on a security camera.
Claybrooks appeared in court on Saturday in Duval County. He was restricted from contacting the unnamed victim and is not allowed to leave Florida or have firearms until his next court date, which is scheduled for August 14. This is the second time Claybrooks was arrested on charges related to domestic violence. Previously, he was arrested for domestic violence back in April on an unrelated case.

Jaguars release statement regarding Chris Claybrooks arrest

After the 26-year-old cornerback Chris Claybrooks was arrested on domestic assault charges for the second time in 2023, the Jaguars released a statement on Friday.
“We are aware of the arrest of Chris Claybrooks and are currently in the process of gathering information. We will have no further comment at this time,” the Jaguars said in a statement Friday.
The league is also expected to conduct an investigation as to whether the 4th-year cornerback broke the league’s conduct policy. He is expected to get a suspension in the 2023 season.
Claybrooks was drafted in the 7th round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Jaguars. He is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is owed $1 million in 2023 by the Jags.
The 5’9″ cornerback was a good asset for the defending AFC South champions as they used him as a rotational piece. In his first 3 years, he played in 46 games and registered 81 total tackles.
