This season’s Super Bowl favorite, the Baltimore Ravens, lost the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Against all odds, the Chiefs made it to the Super Bowl for the consecutive season. Like the regular season, the Chiefs’ defense had a gala time on the field. They restricted one of the most dangerous offenses only to ten points and kept probable 2023 season MVP winner Lamar Jackson quiet.

The Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones can take major credit for the stellar front displayed by the defense. In the post-game interview with Fox Sports, the Chiefs man said that he loves being the villain when he was asked how he felt after silencing everyone who had suspected their ability in the regular and the postseason.

I like being the villain. It feels good being the villain. Everybody coming to the Arrowhead we got the crowd behind us. But I still enjoy quiet on the row and being the villain.

The Chiefs, this season had a monumental on-road success. After beating the Miami Dolphins in Arrowhead, they went on to play the Bills and the Ravens on the road.

For the first time since Mahomes became their starter, they were on the roads for the postseason, but that did not prevent them from gaining success. They won all the games and despite all obstacles suffered in the regular season; the Chiefs are Super Bowl LVIII bound.

Above all, the analysts who put the bet on Patrick Mahomes‘ playoff record won it. Mahomes had a stellar role in the playoffs with 241 passing yards for a touchdown and remains the undisputed king of postseason games.

Chris Jones reflects on the Chiefs’ journey in the 2023 season

In the post-game interview with Fox, Chris Jones threw light on the struggles of his team this season. He kept on talking about how the team stopped the other favorites, like the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins. He gave credit to the defense that now is the second-best in the league.

It is not about the destination it is about the journey. You look at the journey that we had to take this year... We had to face the Miami, one of the highest-scoring offenses in the league. Going on to play against the Buffalo, another prolific offense with a heck of a quarterback like Josh Allen. Then we have come here to entertain Lamar. I think it is our journey that has prevailed us.

Apart from the AFC title, Jones also bagged some extra money. Securing the title of first-team All-Pro and the Chiefs progressing to the Super Bowl has resulted in DT Chris Jones adding another $1M incentive to his earnings.

In the Super Bowl, the Chiefs will be facing the San Francisco 49ers, the NFC Championship Winners who bagged a late win against the Detroit Lions. The Super Bowl LVIII is scheduled for 11th February 2024.
