In the opening game of the NFL 2023-24 season, the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs will face the Detroit Lions. Ahead of the game, the Chiefs have found themselves in trouble as two of their star players Chris Jones and Travis Kelce are out for the encounter. While Kelce is suffering from an injury and hoping to return soon to the field, Jones’ case is a bit difficult. As things stand right now, it is unsure whether he will be a Chiefs person anymore.

Speaking to the media, the defensive tackle (DT) triggered the uncertainties once again. He said, ” Someone’s gonna like it, someone’s gonna respect it and someone’s gonna dislike it. It is just as it is. You can’t keep everybody happy. Unfortunate. As much, you try to do as much you try to appease people… unfortunately… I am sorry. And I am asking for a raise.”

The player also denied any possible negotiations between him and the team. He said that as of now there is no report of progress. He is asking for a raise and they are not listening to it. What he tried to mean is that the situation is complicated and no one has a clear answer about what is going to happen.

What is the issue with Chris Jones for the Kansas City Chiefs?

The Kansas City Chiefs will go on to the field as a defending champion. The DT Chris Jones had a large impact last year for the team to clinch the Super Bowl title. When everything was looking nice and the Kansas City Chiefs were thinking of the Super Bowl in the consecutive second year, things started taking a drastic turn as both parties ( the Chiefs and Jones) failed to reach an agreement regarding the contract extension.

As a result, the star DT stopped coming to the team’s practice. He missed the entire pre-season for the Chiefs and even after the preseason, he missed the team’s training sessions. Moreover, news has been circulating that he may get traded soon to the Dallas Cowboys. Jones’ Twitter activities triggered suspicions regarding the transfer.

Overall, the situation in the Chiefs’ dressing room is pathetic. Coach Andy Reid and the star quarterback Patrick Mahomes were frustrated about the situation. In one of his press conferences, Reid did not hide his disappointment over the situation and said, “I can’t tell you. I don’t know, I don’t know what his agenda is, whether he’s coming or not. We’re rolling right now, I haven’t put that much thought into that part.
