After becoming one of the only two teams in NFL history to win two consecutive Super Bowl trophies, Patrick Mahomes is all charged up, as he ought to engrave the name of the Kansas City Chiefs in the pages of history for winning three consecutive Vince Lombardi trophies.
However, with the other teams arming up this offseason, the three-peat wouldn’t be a smooth road for the Chiefs.
In the NFL, it can never be predicted when a team can suddenly flip the coin and become a contender despite having a prolonged period of average performances.
Something similar happened with the Houston Texans last season when they won the AFC South with a 10-7 record after not having winning seasons between 2020 and 2022.
Interestingly enough, even Chris Long extended his support to this notion. While talking about the favorites to win their third consecutive Super Bowl trophy, the former Super Bowl champion named the Texans as a real threat to Mahomes and the Chiefs.
The Houston Texans, man, are doing work. And I will say this, it’s a little early to be pounding the table for a team in the AFC but they [Texans] might be one of the biggest threats if not the biggest threat outside of your traditional Baltimore and some of the usual cast of characters. I mean it’s not a stretch to say that they are going to win that division.Said Long in a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.
Chris Long applauded Houston Texans’ offseason moves
While talking about why the Texans can be a real threat to the reigning Super Bowl champions next season for the divisional title, the two-time Super Bowl champion applauded the Texans’ offseason moves and the best decision they made last offseason by drafting CJ Stroud.
They replaced defensive end Jonathan Greenard with Danielle Hunter, whom Long considers “fantastic.” The franchise also replaced Sheldon Rankins with Denico Autry and inked former Cincinnati’s Joe Mixon, who logged 1,000 yards last season.
That’s a team that’s gonna have a lot of juice. And they look so damn competent.Added Long
With this offseason addition to the brilliant offense led by last season’s Rookie of the Year, Stroud makes the Texans a real Super Bowl contender next season.
