Chris Russo, aka Mad Dog, isn’t a fan of broadcast networks focusing too much on Taylor Swift during games. Neither the veteran sports analyst nor he is the first individual to bring that up in the past few months, and he certainly won’t be the last.

Swift quickly became a familiar face during Kansas City Chiefs games in the 2023 season. The pop icon attends NFL games so that she can cheer for her boyfriend, Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce.

To not miss the Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, Swift traveled back from Tokyo in just one day. She showed up with a bunch of friends and set the mood inside the stadium and among folks throughout the country. Whenever the Chiefs made a decisive play, the CBS camera would pan toward the VIP Suite, where she was sitting, and this irked Russo.

During the recent episode of ESPN’s First Take, he not only complained but screamed at the CBS Network for their Taylor Swift coverage, which the studio revealed to be only for 54 seconds. And the irony is that his rant was longer (110 seconds) than her screen time.

Russo began his rant by noting that he spoke with Sean McManus ahead of the Super Bowl, but he downplayed the Swift coverage.

In the AFC Championship game, she was on for 38 seconds. Alright, that sounds like not that big of a deal. This past week, she was on for 55 seconds. [But] they went to that box 12 times. 12 TIMES! He only caught one ball in the first half. I’m not interested! They couldn’t pick out Len Dawson out of a lineup for crying out loud!

Chris Russo teased conspiracy theories over extended coverage of Taylor Swift

The majority of football fans have accepted Swift as a feature during football games. At first, it was different. Similar to Russo, a chunk of the football fandom did not appreciate the 14 times Grammy Winners continued to dominate on their TV screens.

Few even questioned why TV networks are so keen on showing the 34-year-old often.

You know why fans get annoyed in Buffalo and [Baltimore]? They think there’s a conspiracy. ‘Well, they want the [Kansas City] Chiefs to win, so they get all the calls because they want to capitalize on Taylor Swift.’

He conceded that the idea of a conspiracy theory is ‘nonsensical’ but that’s what the fans believed. And when Joe Biden‘s X (formerly Twitter) account sends out suspicious tweets, then the smell of conspiracy does start to linger.

Then again, everyone has the right to watch a game. Even if that’s Taylor Swift, there’s nothing wrong with showing arguably the biggest singer currently on the face of the planet.
