Former NFL quarterback turned analyst Chris Simms is facing the heat for his unwarranted comments about ‘Tus Push play’. The infamous tactic was supposed to be banned by the NFL but still remains a part of the game.
In a recent segment of NBC Sports Pro Football Talk, Simms was discussing the ‘Tus Push play’ with co-host Mike Florio. During the conversation, a moment from the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was playing in the background.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles were leading by 22-3 and had a chance to add six more. The line of scrimmage was just 2 yards from the red zone, and it would have been easy for them to score. Jalen Hurts‘ quarterback sneak with a helpful nudge from behind usually completes the method. But Bucs linebacker Lavonte David saw through the intentions and charged in to sack Hurts.
But Simms wanted more. He made it clear with the provocative remark that has landed him in severe controversy. “If I were a defensive coach, I would go headhunting on the quarterback here,” Simms said. “Go ahead, dive over, go cr–y, and try to kill the quarterback.”
Social media blasts Chris Simms for his unwarranted take on Jalen Hurts Tush Push play
After the episode aired on NBC Sports fans especially the Eagles faithful were not happy with the comments. They slammed Simms saying he has it against Jalen Hurts.
Retired NFL cornerback and now media sensation Richard Sherman weighed in on Chris Simms’ comment as well. Sherman pointed out the inconsistency of the NFL.
That is true. Mike Florio had to step in to do damage control. He clarified that Simms did not imply anything malicious. Then wonder why he blurted out the word Kill (probably a figurative speech). Later, Jalen Hurts got to know about the situation and addressed it in a press conference. “I have no thoughts on it. We’re the only people doing it as well as we are,” he said. “A guy even wanted me hurt for it, too.”
Well the NFL was planning to stop teams from using the play during the offseason. As Sherman said they remain nonchalant to the situation. They haven’t put out any statements as of yet.
