The NFL is witnessing a lot of strange deals this offseason. The Philadelphia Eagles brought back the safety CJ Gardner-Johnson on Monday.

Eagles are signing Safety/Nickel Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to a 3-year deal worth up to $33 million max value. His agents Kevin Conner & Robert Brown of @unisportsmgmt confirmed the deal. Back to Philly.

This move aimed to strengthen the team’s shaky defense, which caused a major problem for the team in the 2023 season. Last season, the Eagles lost a lot of games due to their defensive inefficiencies. This upcoming season, they are aiming to change the narrative, and signing the safety is the first step to it. Gardner-Johnson received a deal worth $33 million for three years.

Last season, the safety was part of the Detroit Lions squad. The Lions created history by making it to the NFC Championship Game. However, Gardner-Johnson did not get much playing time as he went through severe injury problems. He only played three regular season games and all three postseason games. Before that, the safety was part of the Eagles team where he registered six interceptions.

CJ Gardner-Johnson’s weird reunion with the Eagles

CJ Gardener Johnson had the good fortune to play for different teams in the league. The player started with the New Orleans Saints and then moved to the Eagles in 2022. Later, he joined the Detroit Lions in 2023. He has been cheered by a lot of fans in his life, however; the safety did not think highly of the Philly fans.

The people…they’re f**king obnoxious; I f***ing can’t stand the f**kers.
Gardner-Johnson said in a stream video last year.

The above quote was viral amongst the Eagles fans for quite some months. No wonder Gardner-Johnson addressed this first thing with the Philadelphia fans once the recent trade was confirmed. The safety apologized to the Eagles fans and expressed excitement about his comeback to the franchise.

It is to be seen whether the Eagles fans will like to welcome him in the coming time or not. Considering the Philly crowd’s rowdy history it will take more than an apology from Gardner-Johnson for him to get a wholehearted welcome from the fanbase.
