Those who claimed CJ Stroud could lead Houston Texans to the playoffs this season must be on cloud nine, with the week 18’s victory against the Indianapolis Colts.
As he threw 60 yards downfield on his first play from scrimmage, the rookie established his name among the best rookie quarterbacks ever seen in the NFL.
With the playoffs on the line, Stroud made some huge plays against the Colts and finished the game by completing 20 out of his 26 passes for 264 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. On top of that, with Stroud’s touchdown pass on the first offensive play, the Texans became the first to do so this season, as ESPN reported.
But the most wholesome moment occurred after the game when the rookie QB was seen having an intimate moment with his mom as he hugged her after leading his team to the playoffs for the first time since 2019 under head coach DeMeco Ryans.
When I look up and see her praying it just gives me a sense of comfort. If my mama praying for me it got to do good.He said,
Going forward with a rookie with high aspirations for the Super Bowl, it’s quite clear that the Texans were not playing it safe, and standing firm on their decision was the superstar rookie, Stroud.
That moment when the locker room was celebrating the 22-year-old was priceless for the Stroud family, as it was the same kid who struggled miserably when his father went to prison.
And with this victory, he proved how far he has come and has truly been an inspiration for those kids who might have lost hope because of their endless struggle.
How did C.J. Stroud overcome his father’s imprisonment and become an NFL Star?
Stroud’s spotlight isn’t something new, as he started showing his majestic skills during his time at Ohio State, where the Texans drafted him last year in 2023.
As soon as he entered the league, he turned around the game for the team and became the first rookie to be in the MVP conversation.
But this surely wasn’t easy for him. When he was a teenager, his father, Coleridge Bernard Stroud III, went to prison after pleading guilty to carjacking, robbery, and kidnapping in a drug-related incident. The young Stroud had to struggle miserably because of this, and it wasn’t easy for him to open up about himself.
However, during an interview with the Associated Press, Stroud finally opened up about his struggles.
I was hopeless for a little while. I didn’t know if I was gonna make it out or be anything. He said
The only thing that pulled him out of that phase of his life was seeing his favorite athletes share their life struggles and how they made it. Seeing him today, it seems Stroud has become one of those athletes, and he sure has made it to the other side.
