Caleb Williams is the next big thing in college football. The USC QB is projected to be a 1st round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. There are plenty of teams on the lookout to draft the talented QB and the Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd believes the Las Vegas Raiders should also be in the Williams’ sweepstakes despite having Jimmy Garoppolo on their roster.

Speaking in a recent episode of the Fox Sports show The Herd, Cowherd said, “I’ve said this about the Raiders. They’re like a dormant volcano. Hasn’t erupted in like a year, but it’s always bubbling under the surface.”

Cowherd believes the Raiders already have great players in key positions and just need a good quarterback. If the Raiders couldn’t keep Josh Jacobs and their franchise Jimmy Garoppolo ended up not playing for them, the Las Vegas-based franchise should be on Caleb Williams’ sweepstakes, claimed the NFL analyst.

“My takeaway is you don’t sign Josh Jacobs, even though he’s been wildly productive,” said Cowherd. “If you don’t play Josh Jacobs, you don’t really have an elite backup. If Garoppolo didn’t play, you are in the Caleb Williams sweepstakes in the AFC. You’re in it. I kind of think this is a good time to be a bad team.”

Running back Josh Jacobs, who led the league in rushing yards last season was placed under franchise tag by the Raiders back in March and couldn’t sign him to a long-term contract in the 2023 off-season. Now, Jacobs might end up sitting out the entire 2023 season which would be a huge blow for the Raiders offense.

On the other hand, Garoppolo who signed a 3 year deal with the Raiders in the 2023 off-season could end up not playing a single snap for them because of him failing his physicals. The Raiders have a lot to figure out in the next few months and it all depends on how Garoppolo’s situation pans out in 2023.

Caleb Williams is a projected 1st rounder in 2024

The USC QB Caleb Williams is projected to be a top 5 pick in next year’s draft. He had a terrific campaign in the 2022 college football season and showed Patrick Mahomes-like traits.

As a result, he ended up winning the Heisman Trophy award over the likes of the 2023 first-round selections Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud. Williams will look to continue his form in the upcoming season.

Along with Williams, UNC QB Drake Maye is also expected to be a solid first-round prospect in the 2024 draft class. So, the QB-needy teams will have a handful of signal-callers to pick from in next year’s draft.
