Lamar Jackson won his second league MVP this season. However, the Baltimore Ravens, despite Jackson’s phenomenal year, failed to make it to the Super Bowl. They had the home-field advantage, they finished the season with the best record in the league and they had a bye in the first round of the playoffs. All of that was undone in the AFC Championship game, as the Kansas City Chiefs destroyed the Ravens, 17-10.

Since that game, Jackson has faced a lot of criticism from the media and football fans alike. The two-time league MVP has proven himself to be a great regular-season player, however, his postseason performances have been far from it. Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd though, came to Jackson’s defense by bringing up the Michael JordanScottie Pippen analogy.

Cowherd said on his show The Herd:

In the last nine Super Bowls, six have been won by [Patrick] Mahomes and [Tom] Brady. It doesn't appear many people can win the Super Bowl. Michael Jordan, he couldn't get to the finals, because he couldn't beat Boston, [Larry] Bird and [Kevin] McHale and the Bad Boy Pistons for six years. And when he finally broke through, he was 28. Lamar will turn that next year.
Colin Cowherd said

He further continued:

For the record, Josh Allen, just this year, finally got a star running back... Lamar Jackson, for the first time in six years, finally got an elite wide receiver... Where you land matters. Sometimes it takes awhile for Jordan to get a Pippen, for Tiger [Woods] to get the right caddy... I am not bailing on Lamar.
Colin Cowherd added

Jackson finished the season with 3,678 passing yards and 821 rushing yards. Although the Ravens failed to get to the Super Bowl, Jackson had a terrific year and will look to build on that next season.

Lamar Jackson wins his second league MVP award

At Thursday night’s NFL Honours ceremony, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson made history by winning The Associated Press NFL MVP award for a second time, despite the fact that the season ultimately fell short of his expectations.

Jackson became the youngest two-time MVP since the merger at the age of 27, beating Patrick Mahomes by just 9 months. The Ravens’ QB won by a landslide and narrowly avoided being chosen unanimously. Jackson and Tom Brady were the only players to receive all 50 first-place votes for MVP in the 2019 season.

Jackson said:

I want to thank my organization, the Baltimore Ravens, for finally getting the deal done. My offense [and] offensive line, I can't thank them enough for what they've done. I'm not out there blocking and catching the ball and doing everything. It's a team thing for these awards.

Jackson and the Ravens finished the regular season as the league’s best team with a record of 13-3. However, they failed to make a lot of significant noise in the postseason and were eliminated by the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game. Jackson will hope to lead his team to a Super Bowl as soon as possible.
