The Philadelphia Eagles had a great season last year as they dominated the league, winning the NFC Championship and making it to the Super Bowl. Despite losing to the mighty Kansas City Chiefs, the Eagles played a good game, which has everyone thinking that they will most probably run it back. Veteran analyst Colin Cowherd also agrees with the take but added that the team has a few “blinking lights” which will work against them in 2023.
On his show The Herd, Cowherd presented a comprehensive study of the last five playoff-reaching teams. He showed that teams playing in the playoff or Super Bowl had a downfall in the following season. He gave the example of the 2021 Rams who went 5-12 last year and QB Matthew Stafford suffered a season-ending injury, the Patriots fell off the cliff after legendary QB Tom Brady left them in 2020.
Now following the same trend, Cowherd believes that the Philadelphia Eagles will also have a downfall because he believes ‘the bigger they are, the harder they fall.’ The Eagles had a great roster in 2022 and in the draft this year, the team added even more firepower on the defense, making themselves formidable. Unfortunately, Cowherd still believes the team will fail once again.

Additionally, Cowherd also said that the Eagles’ schedule this year is really tough than they had last year. From October to December, Philly will face the Rams, Jets, Dolphins, Cowboys, Chiefs, Bills, 49ers, Cowboys again, and Seahawks. The quarterbacks heading these teams are some of the best in the league, so it won’t be easy to defeat them while traveling on the road week after week without a break.
While there is truth to some of what Cowherd said but his opinion about the O-line being old is just wrong. The offensive line consists of LT Jordan Mailata (26), LG Landon Dickerson (24), RG Cam Jurgens (23), C Jason Kelce (35), and RT Lane Johnson (33). Granted, Kelce and Johnson are a bit old in football years, the rest of the O-line is really young. And only Cowherd knows what “receiver drama” he was talking about because there have been no reports of AJ Brown playing to leave Philly.
Fans were enraged at Colin Cowherd’s take, which they felt was him rambling on because he didn’t have anything else to talk about. Here are a few reactions from fans.
It’s not just the offense that makes or breaks a team. Defenses have also been critical in winning games and the Eagles’ defense in 2023 will be one of the best in the league. Philly added great talent in the draft this season: — DT Jalen Carter, LB Nolan Smith, and S Sydney Brown to name a few. And OC and DC come and go in the league, but that doesn’t mean the replacement will tank the team.
