The GOAT debate in sports is often a subjective matter. People have their favorites, and they root for their favorites. A lot of factors are taken into consideration while having the GOAT debate. The number of championships matters, however, what matters more is the impact of a player on future generations. In the NFL, Tom Brady might be the GOAT for now, but Patrick Mahomes is coming for that crown.

The Kansas City Chiefs‘ superstar QB has already won a couple of Super Bowls and is vying to win another this season. He and the Chiefs are on the cusp of going to their fourth Super Bowl in five years and that will definitely add to the 28-year-old’s legacy.

However, according to Nick Wright and Colin Cowherd, Mahomes is already made the case to be called the greatest quarterback of all time. They referenced the Bill RussellMichael Jordan argument from the NBA while talking about Mahomes and seven-time Super Bowl champion, Tom Brady.

Cowherd said on the latest episode of his podcast:

What if, in 30 years, we view Brady as Bill Russell? We don’t even argue that Russell is Michael Jordan. In the next 30 or 40 years, when we see the next two other Mahomes, that we will look at Brady and just say ‘Kraft, Belichick, the culture, the bad division. He’s the most productive player.’

Wright responded:

I already believe that Patrick Mahomes plays the position better than anyone’s played it. He doesn’t have the accolades to be able to call him the greatest ever but he doesn’t need seven.
Nick Wright responded

Mahomes still has 5 Super Bowls behind Brady. However, he is part of one of the best teams in the league and will get opportunities to win more titles. He already is in the race to win his third championship as the Chiefs will face the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC title game this Sunday.

Fans bash Colin Cowherd and Nick Wright for putting Patrick Mahomes in the GOAT debate

The NFL GOAT in terms of quarterbacks features a lot of great names. One person who gets the majority of the votes in that debate is the seven-time Super Bowl champion, Tom Brady. Fox Sports analysts Colin Cowherd and Nick Wright, however, believe that the Kansas City Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes is also in that debate, and is probably ahead of Brady, despite not winning as much as him.

Fans on social media slammed the pundits for their claim. The analysts used the Bill Russell-Michael Jordan argument to validate their point. Russell might be the winningest player in league history, but Jordan is widely regarded as the greatest of all time. That argument was applied in the Brady-Mahomes conversation and that triggered fans on the internet. Here are some of the reactions.

Brady and Mahomes have a 3-3 record when facing each other. Despite their equal number of victories, Patrick Mahomes has never won against Tom Brady in the postseason.
