The 2023 NFL season is just around the corner, and the teams are starting to take shape. While some franchises look like world-beaters, a few don’t even come close to getting enough limelight. The same can be said about the Chicago Bears, who will be entering the new season with minimal expectations considering the pounding they took last year. However, Colin Cowherd believes that Justin Fields and co. should at the very least target the playoffs.
Fields is coming off a very poor season, but he finally has a good enough roster ahead of him. However, Cowherd labeled the Ohio State graduate a ‘bad quarterback’ just after two years of playing professionally. “The Chicago Bears, I think, are very interesting,” said Cowherd on one of the recent episodes of the HERD. He continued, “When a team is trying to figure out if their quarterback is the guy, they always blame people.” Then Cowherd gave examples of Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert: “Behind atrocious offensive lines were great really quickly.”
“The Bears O-Line last year was middle of the pack,” Cowherd reminded everyone, saying Fields hasn’t been great. “In two years, Justin Fields has completed 59% of his throws, which is almost as many picks as touchdowns.” Then he labeled Justin Fields a “bad quarterback.” Cowherd went on to warn the Bears that they have no more excuses, saying, “They’ve hit on a couple of the young, very productive players.”
Colin Cowherd predicts Justin Fields and Chicago Bears are playoff-bound

Fox Sports Colin Cowherd has had plenty of bad takes over the years, but the fact that the Bears are capable of reaching the playoffs does have some merit to it. First of all, if one looks at the NFC North, the only team that can realistically challenge them is the Lions. The Packers have significantly weakened after losing Aaron Rodgers and Allen Lazard. Furthermore, the Vikings are still sorting out their roster changes. However, the Bears have only won the conference once in the last 10 years.
Taking a look at the offensive line, the Bears are stacked with good receivers like D.J. Moore and Darnell Mooney. Moreover, Cole Kmet and Robert Tonyan are two solid tight ends. Besides, the Bears added Darnell Wright as their 10th pick in round 1, who is an offensive tackle. Two very promising rookies, Gervon Dexter, and Noah Sewell, were added as well to reinforce the depth at defensive tackle. Fields definitely have the backing of left tackle Braxton Jones who spoke highly of the young quarterback.
All in all, Justin Fields has very few excuses compared to his previous two years. The NFC, being the weaker of the two divisions, may end up helping the Bears reach the playoffs. He will be the man in the thick of it all as the season approaches. He needs to prove why he was the 11th pick in Round 1 for the Bears in the 2021 draft.
