Veteran analyst Colin Cowherd has once again advocated for Baker Mayfield. This time he has asked for more credits for Mayfield than he is presently getting. The veteran was highly impressed by what Mayfield did in the last three games and praised him wholeheartedly.

Mayfield has been in stellar form this season. Against the Green Bay Packers, he had a four-touchdown game. In addition, the QB registered 381 yards of passing with a passing completion rate of 78%. He continued his form in the next match and registered two touchdowns for 283 yards. With his back-to-back stunning performances, the QB triggered playoff hopes among the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans.

In his discussion, Colin Cowherd emphasized these things. He said that nearly all teams who focus on the playoffs, follow a simple formula. An attack-minded coach coupled with a great quarterback. However, that is not the case with the Bucs. Todd Bowles, according to Cowherd, is a defensive-minded coach and that is why Baker Mayfield deserves the most credit.

Cowherd on THE HERD said:

He's now doing it with a defensive coach [Todd Bowles] who got run out in New York and has won less than half his games. I know his division isn’t great, but I didn’t hold that against Trevor Lawrence last year when he won his division, so why should I hold it against Baker Mayfield? Baker is doing this with a defensive coach in 2023 who has a sub.500 record. Baker deserves more credit than he’s getting.

Baker Mayfield’s future in the team is unsure

Despite providing the performance that was needed, Mayfield’s future in the team is unsure for the coming seasons. Though Mayfield wants to stay in the team, the management is unsure about keeping him.

Coach Todd Bowles, however, hailed his quarterback’s performance. Appreciating his game against the Jaguars, he said:

He's been outstanding. He's been outstanding in December. That's what you want from your quarterback in December. Everybody knows each other's plays right about now. But when you're trying to make a push and your quarterback is playing great, it gives you a chance.

When Mayfield was picked the fans were unhappy. They openly trolled and bantered him. However, with time, Mayfield is proving them wrong.
