“He is constantly romanticizing the past,” Colin Cowherd not convinced with Bill Belichick’s leadership amid Ezekiel Elliott’s trade from the Cowboys

Colin Cowherd speculates that coach Belichick still chooses to follow in his old stingy ways rather than facing the reality.

The reviews have mostly been positive from the NFL crowd about the New England Patriots signing running back Ezekiel Elliott. But there are the likes of Colin Cowherd, who believes that Bill Belichick could have acquired Dalvin Cook if they had coughed up a bit more cash.

After months of speculation and with all the contract fiascos surrounding the running backs, both Elliott and Cook finally found new homes. But Cowherd is not fond of Elliott’s move to the Patriots, especially when the former Vikings player was available.“The Patriots could have had Davin Cook,” Cowherd said in the latest segment of Fox Sports’ The Herd. “Instead, it’s always about value for Belichick. Nice stuff costs money.”

The veteran analyst pointed out that the Patriots are 29th in the offensive spending department. He believes that Coach Belichick does not want to let go of the past. Rather, he prefers reminiscing. He argues that Elliott, like so many of his previous signings over the years, was past his prime.“Bill is constantly romanticizing the past. Zeke is past his prime,” he said. “Cam Newton, Chad Johnson were past their prime. He’s become close to retirement’ guy.”

Cowherd argues players such as Newton and Johson did not make any impact in New England because they had already crossed their prime. His words do have merit. Newton only played for one season, recorded his third-lowest passing yards (2657), and recorded 7-8 in the regular season. Johnson, on the other hand, was already in decline. After 11 years in the NFL, his body eventually gave up. The receiver only rushed for 276 yards in his final season, with 15 receptions in 16 games.

Wearing the No. 15 nautical blue Patriots jersey, 28-year-old Ezekiel Elliott stepped onto the field at the Green Bay Packers practice field on Wednesday. After some chatting with the team equipment manager, he went inside the Don Hutson Center.

After his $6 million move, this was the first time the Pro Bowler joined his new teammates for practice. While Colin Cowherd may not be too thrilled with the signing, quarterback Mac Jones definitely is.

“Zeke’s awesome so far,” Jones revealed. “He was already jumping in there, getting some reps. He seems like a great fit.”

Jones also emphasized that Zeke knows how to play football and doesn’t want to bat an eye at all the outside noise about the trade. “I’m not worried about him,” he claimed. “He knows football. Him and Rhamondre are going to be a great 1-2 punch.”

Ezekiel Elliott is joining forces with Rhamondre Stevenson, which can bring some joy down the flanks. Bill Belichick may decide to give his new player a stretch against the Green Bay Packers on August 20.
