It’s hard enough to create a list of the best players in one particular sport, but to compile one of the best of the best from all the popular sports in the world is a mammoth challenge. Nothing Colin Cowherd can’t handle. The veteran analyst has put forward a list of the seven wonders of the sporting world. Does the NFL’s most prolific quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, make the cut?

The Chiefs fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Cowherd placed him second. Dubbed the ‘Seven Wonders of the Sports World,’ it’s a list full of superstars, from NBA legend LeBron James to soccer World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe. Cowherd placed the young Paris Saint-Germain star as his No. 1 pick, and then he turned to Mahomes.

“No. 2, Patrick Mahomes,” he declared on one of the latest segments of Fox Sports 1, The Herd. “Highest passer rating in league history. “[The first] player to have multiple championships and MVPs in his first six seasons.” The 27-year-old is one of the most physically gifted quarterbacks in the NFL. Since his 2017 first-round draft with the Kansas City Chiefs, he has lit up Arrowhead with his dynamic play. He twice led the league in passing touchdowns (2018, 2022) and became the passing yards leader last season.

“He is just moving into his prime. Two Super Bowls and two MVPs. His done it without great defense or special teams,” Cowherd added.

Under the tutelage of coach Andy Reid, Mahomes has been a revelation. He is like Yoda to Luke Skywalker. A master-apprentice duo that conquered the hearts of not just the state of Missouri but the entire US. Together, they won two Super Bowls (2020 and 2022). Moreover, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner and new Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi, Tennis maestro Novak Djokovic, and the NBA’s Golden State Warriors Steph Curry were also named on the list.

Patrick Mahomes on being compared with Tom Brady

With his amazing CV in just seven years in the NFL, Patrick Mahomes can easily be considered one of the greats of recent years, or maybe of all time. Some would even consider him arguably the best Tom Brady. But Mahomes does not want anyone to compare him to the New England Patriots legend.

“I’ve had a great start,” he said in a recent interview with NFL insider Albert Breer. “But I have a long way to go. Tom did it until he was 45. I’m 27, so I know there’s a long way to go.”

Furthermore, in some ways, Brady is like a role model for the Chiefs center. He even followed the former Buccaneers’ method of taking less money so that others could get paid better. Currently, Patrick Mahomes is the seventh-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, earning $45 million a year.
