Analyst Colin Cowherd strongly believes that Sean McDermott is the reason why Bills will slip up and the Dolphins will win the AFC East in 2023

Colin Cowherd has boldly claimed that the Miami Dolphins will have a better season than the Buffalo Bills because of their defensive-minded coach, Sean McDermott. It seems that Mcdermott leading the Bills to four straight playoffs doesn’t really count for much in the eyes of Cowherd.

The ongoing saga surrounding Stefon Diggs and his constant absence, first from the OTAs and then the Minicamp, is dragging McDermott in. On Tuesday, after the camp wrapped up, the media asked the coach about Diggs’ situation, to which he simply replied that he “was concerned.”

McDermott didn’t clarify what concerned him so much; however, quarterback Josh Allen shed some light, saying there are some problems on and off the field and they are fixing them. Diggs himself hasn’t made any clarifications on the matter besides some cryptic social media messages.

FOX Sports 1’s “Herd” host Colin Cowherd was in full form on the June 14th episode as he took a swipe at McDermott. “It’s Sean McDermott’s last chance,” said Cowherd. “I saw him get outcoached by Miami’s Mike McDaniels three times.”

Moreover, the fiery pundit explained that the Bills were building something special that could take on the Dolphins and the Chiefs in the AFC East. However, according to him, they took a step back by appointing McDermott.

Cowherd called McDermott “rigid” and “tone-deaf,” as his way of thinking is backward compared to other more aggressive coaches. Even though the Bills are always near and about the playoffs, Cowherd believes McDermott is the one keeping them from winning a Super Bowl.

Funny enough, just one year ago, Cowherd listed McDermott as one of the top eight coaches in the NFL.

Cowherd may be on to something as to why the Bills are struggling. He singled McDermott out because he believes the Bills, with Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs, are already a Super Bowl-worthy team. According to him, it’s the passive nature of McDermott that’s limiting them to only the playoffs.

With a rigid defensive coach, can’t get the offensive line right. Last year, if you took out Josh Allen’s rush yards, he was running too much and getting hit too much,” Cowherd complained. He speculated that ” this whole Stefon Diggs canceled minicamp is a bigger story than people are letting on.”

Meanwhile, the Dolphins appointed a new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio at the helm and Cowherd’s inside sources whispered that he can stop the Bills “He (Fangio) is the best acquisition Miami made and not Jalen Hurts. Watch that defense it’s getting copied all over the league.”

I got an offensive coach Mike McDaniels (Miami) out-coach him (McDermott) three times last year,” Cowherd said, ” I think Miami is better and I am not sure Buffalo is.” Then he goes on to rank the teams in this order Dolphins, Bills, Jets, and last Patriots in AFC East. “Jets are good” while backing up his ranking,” they will be 9 or 10 winning playoff team but don’t have in (as favorites) as of this morning.”

If the Bills wish to win AFC East they need to resolve Stefon Diggs’ situation fast.
