Veteran analyst Colin Cowherd is not impressed with the Philadelphia Eagles and their head coach Nick Sirianni over the latest performance of the team. Cowherd’s comments come after the Eagles had to suffer a poor loss against the Cardinals by 35-31 in week 17. It was a closely contested game, and the Eagles did not have the wild thought of losing the game after taking a blowout 15-point lead at halftime.
However, man proposes, and god disposes. The Cardinals led a brilliant comeback drive and sealed the victory for them.
The performance triggered some critical questions in the minds of Colin Cowherd. The latter suspected the credibility of the head coach. In the recent episode of his show, ‘Herd with Colin Cowherd,’ the veteran analyst said,
I have been Mr. Optimistic with the Eagles but they lost by 35-31 to Arizona. Arizona had 32 first downs. If you watched the game, they should have won by more.
The analyst then focused on the Philadelphia Eagles’ present-day performance. Attributing last year’s credit to former Eagles’ coordinators, the analyst questioned the credibility of Nick Sirianni. He compared Sirianni with the Los Angeles Chargers’ former coach Brandon Staley and hinted that a departure might do good for the team.
I am getting at the point with the Eagles. Last year's magic was mostly driven by two great coordinators, who were so good that they got head coaching jobs and both are overachieving now. One with Arizona and one with the Colts. When teams have personnel and can't resolve issues that the head coach's issue. That's the Chargers defense with Brandon Staley. It was better that he left. Nick Sirianni, he was outscored by 29-10 in Arizona. That's a bad defense.
A few days back, Sirianni led a major change in the Philadelphia Eagles team management. He demoted Sean Desai from the Defensive Coordinator designation. Sources said that he was not happy with the latter’s play calls. The HC suggested the latter be open regarding play calls. The HC also suggested others share their viewpoints, but the former DC did not agree with him, which led to his demotion.
The Eagles are suffering from an inconsistency problem
Ahead of the postseason, the Eagles have a lot to work on. They were up by 8-1 and after 16 games; they are now standing at 11-5. The team managed to win only three in their last seven games. Their blowout losses against the Cowboys and the 49ers were well-discussed. They are now the second in their division and if all things remain the same, the Cowboys will end up winning the NFC East.
Apart from losing matches, one thing that will haunt the Eagles is that their big names are failing to provide the best. AJ Brown has not had a single touchdown in the last five games. In addition, Jalen Hurts is also becoming largely inconsistent. His turnover rates are booming over his touchdown passes as Cowherd pointed out. The defensive lapses are also getting bigger with time.
It is to be seen whether the Eagles get over these problems or not. The No.1 seed spot is still open and all eyes are on the last game of the four big shots.
