The Packers and the Jets are currently in a stalemate. Both teams haven’t talked in over a week about Aaron Rodgers but the teams are hoping to get a deal done soon according to multiple reports. The Packers are reportedly expecting multiple first-round picks and possibly some players but the Jets are hoping to give up fewer draft picks.

The Jets have already made multiple moves to please Rodgers including signing the former Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard to a 4-year deal. Furthermore, the Jets have built a superteam and now all they need is a good quarterback to finish the puzzle. Currently, the Jets have the former second-overall draft pick Zach Wilson under contract and if they don’t end up signing Rodgers, the Jets would have to settle for Wilson as their starting QB.

Amidst this situation, Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd suggests the Jets tank for a better QB prospect in the 2024 Draft class instead of wasting their draft picks on the 39-year-old Aaron Rodgers.

“What happens if they don’t get Aaron Rodgers? I don’t think it’s the worst thing in the world,” said Cowherd in a recent episode of his show The Herd. “If you start Zach Wilson that’s a four-win team. That ain’t terrible. Let’s be honest, Aaron is not winning a Super Bowl with this team in the AFC.”

Colin Cowherd wants the Jets owner to think for the long term instead of trading for Aaron Rodgers

The renowned NFL analyst Colin Cowherd went on to say that the Jets owner Woody Johnson should guarantee a contract extension to GM Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh and think about long-term success.

“If the owner goes to Robert Saleh and their GM Joe Douglas, and would promise, extend them publicly for another year or two,” stated Cowherd. “If I was Saleh or Joe Douglas I’d be like ‘I’m done with the headaches, let’s not do a one-year Band-Aid with Aaron Rodgers. Let’s go long-term, let’s go into the tank.’”

Cowherd wants the Jets to tank in hopes of getting one of the two great quarterback prospects Drake Maye or Caleb Williams in the 2024 Draft class. Cowherd believes there won’t be plenty of teams next season that would look for a QB in the draft.

Anyhow, the New York Jets are in too deep to back out now, they would certainly like to rope in the 10-time Pro Bowl QB Aaron Rodgers by any means, even if it is for just one year.
