“God is my defender,” Colts HC Jeff Saturday gives fiery response to brutal ‘disgraced coach’ criticism from Bill Cowher
The Indianapolis Colts made a shocking decision last week, regarding their head coach position, and the move was widely criticized. Colts owner Jim Irsay roped in former ESPN analyst, Jeff Saturday as the interim head coach after firing Frank Reich.
The decision to bring in an inexperienced manager who has never overseen an NFL game before made people question the move even more. However, Jim Irsay had claimed that Jeff Saturday’s inexperience was actually an advantage for the Colts and held him apart from the other candidates.
Among the critics, Hall of Famer coach Bill Cowher had arguably made the harshest comment on Jeff Saturday’s hiring, calling the appointment a “disgrace to the coaching position“. After Saturday’s memorable NFL coaching debut against the Las Vegas Raiders, he was asked about the criticism he has received from Bill Cowher.

The newly appointed head coach decided to be measured in his response, claiming that he continues to respect his critics. The 47-year-old also vowed not to change regardless of all the negative talk around him as of this moment.
Saturday said, “I respect his opinion, you know? Here’s the thing. God is my defender, man. I don’t have to defend myself. I am absolutely comfortable in who I am. I respect all those guys.”
“Whoever has whatever negative opinion, I can assure you, it’s not gonna change who I am or what I believe I’m called to do. I have no idea, and I still don’t, how successful I’ll be, but we’re gonna work hard at it and I believe I can lead men and lead the staff. I’m excited about the opportunity.”
The way Jeff Saturday handled the Colts in his debut game was incredibly commendable and would give him a lot of confidence in the future. The only way for Saturday would be to win games and shut the critics down, and he’s done just that in his debut NFL fixture.
