Back in 2019, the Indianapolis Colts franchise QB Andrew Luck shocked the NFL world by retiring during a preseason game despite winning the Comeback Player of the Year award just the previous season. Since then, the Colts have moved on from the talented QB and might’ve even found their future franchise QB since they selected Anthony Richardson in the 2023 NFL Draft. Although it seems like the Washington Commanders were not to close the books on Luck.

The Commanders’ head coach Ron Rivera reportedly tried to rope in the long-retired 33-year-old Andrew Luck before the start of the 2022 season. Rivera hasn’t had any luck in finding good quarterbacks in Washington. He had to play guys like the injured Alex Smith and Carson Wentz. The best quarterback they have had in the last few years is Taylor Heinicke.

The Commanders were so desperate for a quarterback last off-season they called a lot of teams that has quarterbacks available according to an ESPN report. They tried to lure Andrew Luck out of retirement even though he hasn’t played a single snap since 2019. The Washington-based football team eventually settled with Carson Wentz, who got injured and missed a lot of games in the 2022 season.

Nevertheless, it looks like the Commanders have found their franchise QB. They are now all in on their 2022 fifth-round selection, Sam Howell. The team has all the confidence in Howell and backs him to be their future leader.

NFL fans on social media brutally trolled the Washington Commanders for attempting to get Andrew Luck out of retirement. Luck, who played in the league for 6 years, retired abruptly in August 2019.

Andrew Luck was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts as the 1st overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. He lived up to his hype with the Colts as he registered 3 consecutive Pro Bowls seasons to start his career.

However, Luck always had to play behind a deflated offensive line during his time in Indianapolis, which resulted in plenty of injuries. The repeated injuries were too much to take for the 4-time Pro Bowler as he suddenly announced his retirement during a preseason game in August 2019 and he has been out of football ever since.

Despite being retired, Andrew Luck is still under contract with the Colts. So if the Commanders talked to Luck without the knowledge of the Colts’ front office, it will be considered tampering and the Colts owner Jim Irsay has already tweeted about it. Irsay might pursue a tampering case against the Commanders in the future.
