The Washington Commanders had a mixed start in the 2023-24 season. They won their first two games, however, lost their third game against the Buffalo Bills. The team was shambolic as they only garnered three points and lost by more than 30 points. It was an abysmally offensive performance by the team and the head coach has to look into it.

There is hardly any doubt that the Commanders have a good offensive line. Quarterback Sam Howell, despite not performing well in the game vs. the Bills, had a decent outing in the first two games. In three matches, Howell has covered 671 passing yards and completed 65.7% of his entire passes in the league so far. The QB also registered three touchdowns but got intercepted a concerning five times. He was subjected to 19 sacks.

The abysmal performance of the team’s offense caused concerns among the team’s top management. Eric Bieniemy, the offensive coordinator of the team, opened himself up and spoke extensively about the work he has to do to change things on his Thursday.

My job is to make sure we’re doing everything to help us to drag our a** across the finish line,” the OC said while attending the press.

“Obviously, I ain’t do a great job — whether we threw the ball or whether we ran it. Obviously, we didn’t do enough. So, my job is to make sure that, you know what? That doesn’t happen again. My job is to clean up the sh*t and we continue moving forward,” he further added.

How Sam Howell is providing for the Washington Commanders?

This offseason, the Commander named Howell as the starting quarterback for this season. The QB started well in his debut game as a regular starter. In the first game against the Arizona Cardinals, the QB completed 19 of his 31 passes and covered 202 passing yards. He also had a touchdown.

The best performance from him came against the Denver Broncos when the player completed 27 of his 39 passes and had two touchdowns. He covered 299 passing yards with a passing completion rate of 69.2%. The Commanders made a huge comeback in the game and won it by a margin of 35-33. In the Sunday Night football match against the Bills, Howell was poor. Covering only 170 yards with no touchdowns did not help his team to win the encounter.

Howell has also developed two problems. He has been intercepted five times and also has developed a tendency to get sacked multiple times. If the Commanders have to perform well this season, they need to solve this problem.
