The Washington Commander had a big and special night on Thursday.

The Commanders officially introduced Eric Bieniemy as their new offensive coordinator/ assistant head coach. Before joining Washington, Bieniemy was with the Kansas City Chiefs since 2013, serving as the running backs coach and offensive coordinator. Bieniemy won two Super Bowls during his stint in Kansas City.

Eric Bieniemy is definitely a steal for the Commanders as he has coached and called plays for the best quarterback in the league – Patrick Mahomes. Washington’s offense is going to benefit a great deal with Bieniemy calling the plays. The Commanders had an average season with an 8-8-1 record and the last time the team had a taste of success was in 1991 when they won the Super Bowl.

The introductory press conference was a huge success for Eric Bieniemy who was extremely confident and answered every question the reporters threw at him and looked genuinely happy to be in Washington. Along with the coaches, many players were also in attendance for their new offensive coordinator’s press conference. Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, Sam Howell, Antonio Gibson, Logan Thomas, Brian Robinson Jr., and Kam Curl were some of the players who were present on Thursday.

The highlight of the press conference came when star wide receiver Terry McLaurin had a brief chat with Eric Bieniemy. McLaurin went up to the 53-year-old coach and talked up his teammates like a true leader. “I loved what you talked about, about strength and your expectations. I don’t think you’ll have an issue with that, with this group. I don’t think we ever really had an issue with effort,” McLaurin said.

Bieniemy appreciated what the Pro Bowl wideout had to say and told him that he would “lean” on him during the offseason and during games. McLaurin also added that he doesn’t mind being coached hard and actually prefers that his coaches be tough on him. Toward the end, he once again praised his fellow teammates.

On the sports side of things, Scary Terry had another great season in 2022 as he had 77 receptions for 1191 yards and 5 touchdowns. This was his third consecutive 1000-yard season and is rising up the list of the best wide receivers in the league.

Washington has a great bunch of guys on its roster and with the additional help of Eric Bieniemy, they can be a playoff team in the future. Let’s see how their 2023 campaign goes with the 2x Super Bowl-winning offensive coordinator.
