When Kyle Shanahan‘s San Francisco 49ers face off against Andy Reid‘s Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, the event will draw a massive audience, with many tuning in not just for the game itself, but also for the spectacle surrounding it.
From the highly anticipated halftime show and national anthem performances featuring top stars to the attention-grabbing presence of brands and celebrities vying for attention, the NFL attracts a huge amount of attention in February.
According to The New York Times, a 30-second commercial for the NFL’s biggest game of the year typically costs about $7 million. A decade ago, the average cost for the same amount of time was $4 million. The majority of advertisements last year fetched between $6 and $7 million, according to The Associated Press.
Although advertisers are generally spending less money now than they were a year ago, it is not shocking in the slightest for the cost of a Super Bowl commercial to stay the same.
Hundreds of millions of people are expected to watch the Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl this year, which will be televised by CBS. The excitement surrounding this year’s Super Bowl is particularly intense because of the buzz surrounding Travis Kelce, the tight end for the Chiefs, and the pop sensation Taylor Swift.
Celebrities and beverage brands are expected to feature in advertisements during the Super Bowl
Anticipate a tonne of advertisements for beer and soda, possibly a tonne of strange content about mayonnaise, a somber and distressing message from an insurance company, and not a single word about cryptocurrencies. In fact, considering the current state of the industry, it’s likely that much less will be said about tech overall this time around.
Numerous celebrities, former athletes (Arnie Schwarzenegger and Tom Brady are already generating news for their appearances), and everyone in between should be expected. Among the brands that will be highlighted are Hellmann’s, Mountain Dew, Budweiser, and State Farm.
One thing to observe is the extent to which Taylor Swift will influence the advertisements. There must be some brands out there attempting to capitalize on a specific audience that wouldn’t normally be watching the Super Bowl—namely, Swifties—even though the majority of these spots were sold and finalized way in advance.
The Super Bowl will take place at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday. The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to win their second Super Bowl in a row. San Francisco 49ers on the other, are hoping to win their first since the 1994 season.
