The Dallas Cowboys kicker Brett Maher had a nightmare outing in the 2023 NFL playoffs. He missed 4 consecutive extra point attempts in a crucial playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wildcard weekend.

And now, the Cowboys special teams coordinator John Fassel claims his team is on a quest to find their new kicker while Maher remains an unrestricted free agent. According to the Cowboys’ official site, John Fassel made it clear that they are looking at everyone to fill the void in kicker positions.

“We have Tristan on the roster. Anybody else on Earth who is not on the team right now is under consideration,” Fassel said, via the Cowboys’ website. “That’s everyone really. I think we have a lot of different guys that we’re still looking at XFL, USFL, veterans on the street, younger guys who still haven’t found their way.”

Brett Maher had the best season of his career in terms of field goals made as he made 29 out of 32 FG attempts (90.6%). However, his disastrous outing in the postseason, where he only converted 1 extra point in 6 attempts, ruined his shot at re-signing with the Dallas-based football team.

The Cowboys currently have Tristan Vizcaino as the kicker on their roster. While they are looking for a new kicker, there are still plenty of veteran free-agent kickers available, including Ryan Succop, Robbie Gould, and Mason Crosby.

The Dallas Cowboys had a great season in 2022 when they finished second in the NFC East with a 12-5 record. However, they got bounced in the second round of the postseason by the San Francisco 49ers.

Dak Prescott’s 2 interceptions proved to be costly, as the Cowboys lost to the Niners in a disappointing fashion. Nevertheless, the Cowboys, led by Jerry Jones, have regrouped in the off-season and looks to dethrone the Philadelphia Eagles as the NFC Champions.

The Cowboys added DT Mazi Smith, TE Luke Schoonmaker, and RB Deuce Vaughn to address their needs in the 2023 NFL Draft. Besides, they also added WR Brandin Cooks and CB Stephon Gilmore to their roster.

The Dallas-based franchise has certainly improved a lot in free agency and if Dak Prescott cans stay healthy, they will pose a real threat to the Eagles in the NFC East. However, despite the improvement, the Cowboys cannot be considered Super Bowl contenders in the upcoming season, but they still have an outside shot at winning the championship.
