The Dallas Cowboys preseason training camp began last week in Oxnard, California. All eyes are on quarterback Dak Prescott to finally deliver in 2023, and with that expectation, fans flocked to see how he was faring in the open session. However, what they saw midway through the drills would make them worry. A few days ago, the 30-year-old pledged to stop throwing interceptions. “I am going to lessen my interception numbers,” Prescott said. “That is a guarantee.”
That guarantee sounds like a distant memory, as he repeated the same mistake that has cost the Cowboys far too much for the last couple of years. During Monday’s training camp, Prescott threw what can easily be titled ‘tossing to the opposition,’ as safety Malik Hooker intercepted an easy ball. Hooker can be heard disappointedly screaming, “Come on, Dak.”
Until the 2022 season, interceptions were not on Dak Prescott’s list of priorities. But when he recorded 15 of them despite missing five games, it became a subject of grave scrutiny from coaches and fans alike. He made crucial errors in the divisional playoff game, which they ended up losing to the San Francisco 49ers.
It seems the two-time Pro Bowler is struggling with the same bug that his predecessor, Tony Romo, had. Romo was well known for his stray passes while playing for the Cowboys. The 2022 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award winner completed 66.2 percent of his passes for 2,860 yards and 23 touchdowns as the Cowboys recorded a consecutive 12-5 season they finished second in the NFC East.

CeeDee Lamb piles pressure on Dak Prescott claiming the offense is in his hands
Prescott needs to right his wrongs quickly, or his wide receiver, CeeDee Lamb, will be left disappointed. Being the center of the squad puts a lot of pressure on a player, hence passes going astray. Last season, he had the second-lowest number of deep passes in the NFL. That is why coach Mike McCarthy wants his quarterback to focus on making improvements on that front.
Lamb is hopeful for his veteran teammate, whose birthday he celebrated by wearing ‘Happy Birthday Dak’ t-shirts during training. “All the offense is in Dak’s hands now,” Lamb told 105.3 The Fan. “It’s all on Dak. However he’s feeling versus the coverage, we’re going to call that play.”
Moreover, he touched on Prescott practicing deep plays. “He’s looking for the deep ball. This is a warning to everybody.”
The Dallas Cowboys have three preseason games scheduled before the 2023 NFL campaign begins. They will face the Jacksonville Jaguars, the New England Patriots, and the Las Vegas Raiders.
