The 2023 NFL Draft is officially done. During the 3-day event, which ended on Saturday, teams added elite talents to their roster and the event had a lot of drama, action, and emotional moments. In one such instance, the Dallas Cowboys scout Chris Vaughn had an emotional moment after the team drafted his son Deuce Vaughn in the sixth round.

The Cowboys addressed their running back needs in the draft. Their general manager Jerry Jones selected the Kansas State running back Deuce Vaughn with their No. 212 overall pick. But the highlight of the pick was Deuce Vaughn, the son of Chris Vaughn, who has been working as a scout for the Dallas-based football team since 2017.

When the pick was announced, Chris was teary-eyed and got emotional as he started to hug the Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy and owner Jerry Jones. Furthermore, Jones even let Chris call his son to inform him that he will be the Cowboys’ new running back. “Look here, man, do you want to come to work with me next week?” a teary-eyed Vaughn asked his son via phone. “I wouldn’t mind that at all,” Deuce answered.

Despite being the scout, Chris Vaughn didn’t write a scouting report for his son Deuce during the draft process. He didn’t want to be an influence in any way in his son getting drafted.

Following the overflow of emotions after he got drafted in the sixth round in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, Deuce Vaughn shared how he felt through the whole process.

“Over the past 21 years of my life and to see him react the way that he did, I’m not going to lie,” Deuce said about his dad getting emotional when speaking on the phone with him. “It was a tearjerker.”

“I just needed a chance. It didn’t matter what round. It didn’t matter exactly what pick. I just needed a chance, a foot in the door. For it to be Dallas, oh man, it’s unbelievable,” said Deuce Vaughn after getting drafted by the Cowboys as the No. 212 overall pick.

Deuce Vaughn was a 2-year starter for the Kansas State Wildcats. The 5’5″ 172-pound running back registered 4884 scrimmage yards and 43 total touchdowns for the Wildcats. He is an explosive back who would be another great asset for the Cowboys’ offensive unit.
