After a successful regular season, Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys suffered a heartbreaking loss against the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round of the 2022-23 NFL postseason. Furthermore, the 7th-year quarterback had an ugly 2-interceptions outing against the Niners. Following the defeat, many Cowboys fans wanted their team to move from him.

Even the Cowboys’ official social media account subtly placed the blame on their franchise quarterback. Moreover, there were even rumors about how the Dallas-based football team was intrigued by the Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud, which led to many speculations about the Cowboys moving on from the two-time Pro Bowl QB.

All signs pointed towards a split between the two parties in the near future, but now it looks like the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott will continue their toxic relationship for a long period. According to reports, self-proclaimed America’s team is looking to extend Prescott to clear some cap space. “We’ve got to have a plan to ultimately extend Dak,” Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said on Monday. “I’ve got all the faith in the world we can win this thing with Dak.”

Furthermore, he also went on to say that Prescott’s leadership skills are undeniable. “Because we know him,” said Jones. “We know what he’s about. His leadership skills are undeniable. Impeccable work ethic. Other than he hadn’t won some key playoff games, he’s everything you want in a quarterback. From the day he walked in the door, he’s won a lot of games. We just got to get over the hump.”

NFL fans on social media did not react well to the Cowboys’ decision to extend Dak Prescott. While some people liked the idea of keeping Prescott for some more years, the majority of people were devastated by the news. It’s understandable since the 6’2″ QB was really a liability for Jerry Jones‘ team in the last season. In fact, he led the league in interceptions despite missing five games due to injury.

There are no details about a contract extension yet, but the team will do it this year to save some cap space ahead of the free agency. Furthermore, if the Cowboys extend Prescott, it means they will not likely draft a QB in the high rounds in the upcoming NFL Draft. Instead, they will probably draft an offensive weapon for Prescott who has been struggling a lot in recent times.
