The former WFAN host, Craig Carton, takes a dig at the US billionaire and the owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, for holding onto the dream of clinching the Super Bowl title this year. He dismissed Jones by saying he made the same assumption nearly 12 months ago.
Considering the performance of the Dallas Cowboys in the last 28 years, Craig Carton on his show has slammed Jones for having high hopes for his team. The 54-year-old US radio personality said, “By the way, if that was an owner randomly coming out on the eve of another season, saying, Boy, I love my quarterback, I love my team. I don’t want to jinx it, but we got a good shot. I accept that we can debate it, right? Here’s the issue of it. If you go back 12 months before that, Jerry Jones said the same thing.”
Not only that, but also he cited tweets that referred to some of Jerry Jones’ old comments about being ‘in a better position’ before the start of NFL seasons in previous years like 2022 and 2021. Summing his argument up, Carton said that Jones has been making the same remark for the past 25 years. However, his team has been failing to achieve what it needs to.
The Cowboys have gone through significant ups and downs in the history of the NFL. The franchise’s performance was remarkable in the earlier years, as the team made it to 12 conference championships in the first 29 seasons. However, its performance has dropped significantly since then and the team has failed to win a single NFL title in the last 28 years.
Jerry Jones is having high hopes for Cowboys this season
Earlier Jones, who has been owning the Dallas Cowboys for two and a half decades, made it clear that this season, the Cowboys are in better shape to win the Super Bowl title under the leadership of the quarterback Dak Prescott. According to the recent ‘Football Night with America’ column by Peter King, Jones said, “You shouldn’t give up the ghost because you fall short in a highly competitive league. Just because we haven’t won it in so long doesn’t make what we’ve done meaningless.”
He further continued,” And I think this year we’re in a better position to win it than we have been in years. We have the team, and we have the quarterback and I think this year we’re in a better position to win it than we have been in years. We have the team, and we have the quarterback.” (H/T: NBCSports)
During the ongoing training camp, the 80-year-old businessman also emphasized the significance of going through tough times in a competitive league like the NFL. He also said that temporary setbacks should not reduce the achievements.
