CSU safety Henry Blackburn will not be suspended by the Rams for his hit on Colorado Buffaloes two-way player Travis Hunter. However, Rams head coach Jay Norvell claimed that there had been some unwanted developments in the aftermath of the incident.
While talking with the media during his weekly news conference at Canvas Stadium, Norvell revealed that Blackburn and his family were receiving death threats during and after the game at Folsom Field on Saturday night. According to him, the police are doing their best to handle the situation.
“The police department is supporting him,” Norvell said. “It’s sad that that’s the state of the world we live in. I mean, it’s a football game. Let’s not make it more than that. We don’t want anybody to get hurt.”
During the game, Blackburn was on deep coverage and hit Travis Hunter in the chest; apparently, he did not see the CSU man charging at him. Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders did not appreciate the tackle and started to scream at the player. Blackburn was then flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Hunter later returned to the field, but the officials decided to send him back to the dugout. Later, doctors who examined him declared that Hunter suffered from a lacerated liver. This means he could be out for several weeks. Coach Norvell wished for his speedy recovery.“I hope that Travis gets healthy and gets back out there,” he added. “We certainly don’t want to see anybody get hurt.”
Jay Norvell fears social media is fueling hatred for Henry Blackburn
It’s not the 1960s anymore, when the news used to spread like a turtle. In the age of social media, it whistles past in a jiffy. On one hand, it’s a boon; on the other, it’s a massive curse that some use to perform uncouth tasks. As per Jay Norvell, it’s the same in Henry Blackburn’s case. The veteran coach claimed that a section of people had misused the social media platform to threaten his players’ families.

“We had a player get death threats and his family get death threats,” he said. “Their address posted all over Instagram and social media. Those kinds of things don’t have a place in college football.” Norvell fears that Travis Hunter’s social media stardom is only fueling the fire. On top of that, his head coach, Deion Sanders, whom Norvell seemingly pissed off before the game, commands significant public attention.
“I’m very concerned for our kids,” Norvell said, as per the Denver Post. “These are 18- to 22-year-old kids. They play college football. There’s really no place for that in athletics and sports.”
Amidst all the tension, the Colorado State Rams will face the Middle Tennessee Blues on September 24. The Colorado Buffaloes, who slipped to 19th in the AP Pac-12 rankings, are traveling to Oregon to play the 10th-place Ducks on the same date.
