The new “Texas Coast Offense’‘ looked to be one point for the Dallas Cowboys as Dak Prescott called the shots against the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday night. He did not look out of place one bit during the entire match.

They started the game with outgoing quarterback Will Grier as Prescott donned the headphones and assumed the role of offensive coordinator. Mike McCarthy, who has a history of turning over the responsibilities to a different assistant coach in the final preseason game, allowed Prescott to assume the role. The results were amazing.

Grier, under the 30-year-old’s calls, finished with 305 yards on 29-of-35 passing with two touchdown passes and two rushing touchdowns. McCarthy claimed it was the best preseason performance he had seen since Matt Hasselbeck in 1999.

When asked about how it felt to be one day OC, he refused to take credit. Rather, he supported Grier and highlighted his work ethic in his final game for the Dallas Cowboys.

“That guy played his ass off,” Prescott said. “It doesn’t matter who’s calling the plays. I give credit to that as much as me calling a couple of plays.”

However, McCarthy told ESPN that the experience would only help his No. 1 quarterback. “You’ve got to be like that to call plays. That’s a really good experience for him,” he said.

Dak Prescott is one of the most criticized quarterbacks in the league, according to Robert Griffin III of ESPN. Undeniably, he faces a lot of stick compared to others in his position. Now that Trey Lance is a Cowboy, the scrutiny of the Pro Bowler may increase. But Prescott is not bothered by the move and understands that it’s the management’s call.

“I can’t say that I necessarily expected,” he said. “I understand, though, that that’s business. It’s a tough situation.”

He did quite well to shut out the noise before and during the game on Saturday. The Cowboys dominated the Raiders, and Tom Brady’s words did little to no help.

The Mississippi State alumni’s play calls were like magic for his teammates. In more than half an hour of play, he instructed 71 plays that earned them 457 yards, 28 first downs, and zero interceptions.

Dak Prescott is sad to see Grier leave and does not want the day to be about himself. That can wait until he and Lance meet each other in the locker room. The Cowboys kick off their 2023 NFL campaign against the New York Giants on September 11.
