The Dallas Cowboys training camp for the upcoming 2023 season is scheduled to commence in two weeks, but their franchise QB Dak Prescott is already out on the football field. Prescott conducted his annual youth football camp on Saturday at FordCenter. During the camp, Prescott talked about turning 30 and being the veteran in the locker room.
The former Pro Bowl QB Prescott talked with the Cowboys staff writer Nick Eatman during his annual youth camp. “I’ve loved this game same way since I was their age. And I’m about to turn 30. When you’re out here, having these different ages, you see what this game means. Giving back and I like to interact and play the game,” Prescott told Eatman.
Prescott went on to say that being 30 doesn’t necessarily bother him and that he has always felt kind of older than his actual age. But being the old guy among young rookies is “fun and challenging at times,” claimed Prescott. Moreover, now that he’s at the back end of his career, Prescott and the Cowboys have a sense of urgency to get over the postseason hump and win the Cowboys’ first Super Bowl ring since 1995.
“One thousand percent,” Dak said about feeling even more urgent to win. “Just understanding injuries and what I’ve been throughout my career and understanding that you don’t have forever to play this game. I’m blessed for every moment that I get. Just trying to take it with a sense of urgency.”
Prescott will be turning 30 on July 29. He will be entering his 8th year in the league in 2023. The Cowboys, despite having a good roster had early exits from the postseason last couple of years. They’ll look to get over that hump in the upcoming season.
Is it a do or die season for Dak Prescott in Dallas?
Dak Prescott-led Cowboys have been knocking on the doors of the Super Bowl in the last few years. However, they can’t get past the San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs.
Last season, the Cowboys lost to the 49ers in a heartbreaking fashion. Prescott had an abysmal 2 interception performance and received a lot of criticism for it. Even the Dallas-based franchise’s official social media account took a jab at Prescott’s outing.
The Cowboys were expected to move on from Prescott, but it seems like they now have full trust in him. They have stuck with him for the upcoming season and even added an offensive weapon to help their franchise QB. They added former Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks in the 2023 off-season.
If the Cowboys again lost in the playoffs because of Dak’s horrible performance, Jerry Jones would end up moving on from him ahead of the 2024 season. It might be Prescott’s last chance to solidify his legacy as the Cowboys QB.
