Dak Prescott‘s love for tattoos is well-known throughout the land. He showed up to Arlington in the offseason with elaborate ink on his right leg, which took more than 10 hours to complete. Almost six months later, the artist revealed that the Dallas Cowboys quarterback was sedated throughout the ordeal.

Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Prescott had to take sedatives that put him under for 11 hours. According to tattoo artist Andres Ortega, who operated on the 30-year-old, it was a rough process because several people were working in tandem to finish the product.

On top of that, everyone at the Cowboys facility was in the dark the entire time. Not even Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy were aware of the extreme measures that their quarterbacks had taken.

“I certainly didn’t know he was under for 10 hours,” Jones claimed, as per Hill (H/T: Fort Worth Star-Telegram). “I had no idea that required that kind of sedation of any tattoo. [Which is] why I don’t have a tattoo.”

McCarthy said he was in shock after hearing the details about Prescott’s new tattoo. “He shows it to me. I’m like, ‘Jesus Christ, how long did that take?,” the Cowboys head coach asked his QB 1. Apparently, the Pro Bowler showed him a video of when it was being worked on.

Andreas Ortega has drawn for several NFL players over the years. But drawing the tattoo over Dak Prescott was a massive undertaking. According to him, it usually takes around six hours. But the former Ole Miss starter has big, strong legs, which is why it took longer.

“Sometimes we do it in six,” Ortega said. ” [But] he’s got big legs. He looks skinny, but he’s got big legs.”

Then he revealed the meaning behind the tattoo. It consists of the Dallas Skyline, a pegasus, a tribute to his later mother Peggy, a moose, and an honor to his brother Jace, who passed away in 2020. There’s also Daffy Duck and a sign of Pine State Estate in Louisiana, where Prescott grew up. There are images of a Black Mamba for Kobe Bryant, a Jumpman logo for Michael Jordan, and a picture of Muhammad Ali.

It was his Cowboys teammate CeeDee Lamb who discovered Ortega and introduced them. Apparently, the wide receiver saw the artist’s work on Browns Elijah Moore. He is a baseball fan and knows little about football players. However, several players have followed suit, since Prescott’s ink went viral. Ortega revealed that he would be in attendance when the Cowboys face the Arizona Cardinals on September 24.
