The former Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook became a free agent after getting released by the franchise in the 2023 off-season in a cost-cutting move. He is now exploring his options in free agency and receiving offers from several teams, including the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets.
Amidst this, there are now new reports suggesting that the 4-time Pro Bowler shockingly turned down a contract offered by the Dolphins in hopes of bagging a massive deal. During a recent episode of the ESPN show NFL Live, insider Jeff Darlington broke this news.
“The Miami Dolphins remain interested, they still have an offer on the table, one though that Cook is not willing to accept,” said Darlington. “He is still interested in joining the Dolphins but at this point again not willing to commit to the deal they have on the table.”
Darlington went on to insinuate that free agent Dalvin Cook might wait for July 17 deadline and see how much other running backs such as Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs would be getting paid if they end up signing an extension with the New York Giants and the Las Vegas Raiders, respectively.
The Vikings released Cook since they didn’t want to pay him the $11.9 million he was set to receive in the 2023 season. Cook is still looking for a similar contract with other teams. Currently, the San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey is the highest-paid rusher in the league with an annual average salary of $16 million. Cook is seemingly looking for a contract in the same ballpark.

Dalvin Cook would be a massive addition to the Dolphins
The Dolphins currently boast one of the best offensive units in the league. They have 2two speedy wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and a top-tier QB Tua Tagovailoa leading from the front.
They already have three talented rushers in their backfield, but if they can grab Cook, they would become unstoppable in the AFC East division.
Cook was released by the Vikings purely for salary cap reasons. The defending NFC North champions saved $9 million in salary cap by releasing him. But the 27-year-old RB is one of the greatest rushers in the league currently.
He has 4 consecutive Pro Bowl seasons and 4 straight 1000-plus rushing yards campaigns. If he ends up joining a contender like the Dolphins or the Jets, he could help them to win a Super Bowl ring in the upcoming season.
