Great news for the entire NFL. Damar Hamlin has been cleared to play football!

Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin, announced at a press conference on April 18 that he will be taking the field once again. While sharing this epic news, Hamlin also revealed the cause of his tragic cardiac arrest. “I’m here to announce I plan on making a comeback to the NFL. My heart is still in the game, I love the game,” he said.

“It’s a direct blow at a specific point in your heartbeat that causes cardiac arrest, and five-to-seven seconds later, you fall out,” Hamlin explained. “That’s pretty much what everyone’s seen Jan. 2 of this year. Commotio cordis is the leading cause of death in youth athletes across all sports. So that’s something that I personally will be taking a step in to make a change.”

He also added that he wants to show people that it’s possible to return from a setback and inspire people. Hamlin also said that he wants people to know that fear will always be a choice when you are starting something from the scratch again. However, if he can do it, so can everyone else. The entire league will be celebrating Damar Hamlin‘s first game back with much gusto.

In January during the Week 17 Bills vs Bengals game, Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest when he tackled Cincinnati’s wide receiver, Tee Higgins. At first, Hamlin stood up on his feet but quickly succumbed to the ground and fell unconscious. Medics rushed to the ground and administered CPR on Hamlin for almost 10 minutes before the ambulance arrived and took him to the UC Medical Center.

He was then transported to the Buffalo General Hospital in New York, where he recovered in weeks. Hamlin was back to motivating the Bills and face timings his teammates from the hospital. During the Bills’ divisional playoff game against the Bengals, the 26-year-old was present at Highmark Stadium cheering his team.

Damar Hamlin expressed his gratitude to the first responders during NFL Honors in February. He said, “Every day I am amazed that my experiences could encourage so many others across the country and even across the world. Encourage to pray, encourage to spread love, and encourage to keep fighting no matter the circumstances. Sudden cardiac arrest was nothing I would have ever chosen to be a part of my story, but that’s because sometimes our own visions are too small even when we think we are seeing the bigger picture.”

Damar Hamlin has been working non-stop to increase awareness about the importance of CPR and defibrillator. He was also recently invited to the White House by President Joe Biden for dinner.

Now, the entire country is waiting for Hamlin to step back on the gridiron and show the world that nothing is impossible!
