Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is undoubtedly destined for greatness, a fact underlined by the volume of success he has enjoyed in his career, which is only just getting started. He’s been termed as the new generation GOAT by many analysts, most of whom predict that he will reach similar heights as Tom Brady.
The 45-year-old announced his retirement from the sport after a magnificent 23-year career in the NFL, during which he’s won a whopping seven Super Bowl championships. Mahomes has already won the Super Bowl twice within six seasons and might have a real shot at matching Brady, according to former NFL offensive guard turned ESPN analyst, Damien Woody.
“I think he could get to Brady’s level. I don’t know if it’ll happen but listen we’re talking about the best quarterback in the game right now with the best offensive mind in (head coach) Andy Reid. Patrick Mahomes is not going anywhere. Mahomes is what? 27, 28 years old?,” Damien Woody said during his recent appearance on the Get Up show.
Woody heaped praise on Patrick Mahomes, handing him the title of the best current quarterback in the NFL. He also claimed that the 27-year-old has become one of the best due to his work with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who is also one of the best offensive masterminds in the NFL currently.
Patrick Mahomes has plenty of time to break Tom Brady’s record
“Look at the runway that Patrick Mahomes has for the rest of his career. When you’re playing with a great organization, great head coach, you’re a supreme talent… if he steps away from the game right now he’s already a Hall of Famer…” Woody finished off.
Patrick Mahomes had an exceptional season in 2022/23, leading the Chiefs to a Super Bowl success, their second within four years with Mahomes as their starting quarterback. While Brady’s record of seven Super Bowl rings may seem very far off at the moment, the career growth Mahomes has shown so far is extremely positive.
Personal records will show that Brady only had one more Super Bowl than Mahomes at the age of 27. Brady won four of his seven titles after the age of 37, which provides all the more evidence in support of Damien Woody’s claims.
