If the NFL had an award for the Most Improved Organization, it would undoubtedly go to the Detroit Lions this season. The team that had faded into irrelevancy and pretty much had a fanbase that had no hopes for it has now come back alive.
Detroit has won five of their six games this season, and they kicked off the season by beating the defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. Could there have been any better way to send a statement to the entire league that the Lions are legit this year? Probably not.
The team won yet another game on Sunday as they held the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a dismal 6 points while their offense put up 20. Following the game, as the players of the Lions went into the locker room in celebratory fashion, Dan Campbell made sure to let them know that they played great football on the field.
“I got a couple of things for you; look what I got in my back pocket. Anybody see what that is?” Campbell asked his team to guess what he had just pulled out of his back pocket.
Dan Campbell is elated at the performance of the Detroit Lions this season
It was a $5 bill; the HC pulled it out and held it high for the entire room to see. He was referring to his team winning five games. “Gentlemen, that’s an outstanding job,” Campbell exclaimed.

He went on to give props to the defense and a special player in the offense who had an impressive game. Campbell decided to make this a memorable game for him by giving him the official game ball. “Our defense is outstanding, gentlemen. It has been a long time. You hold somebody to six points in this league? Holy c*ap, guys, that’s outstanding.”
Dan Campbell goes on to hand one of the game balls to punter Jack Fox for coming in clutch last week against the Carolina Panthers with his two punts which he described as being “critical” to the game. The next recipient of the game ball was none other than the team’s quarterback, the man who led the Los Angeles Rams to a Super Bowl before being banished to Motor City. It’s Jared Goff.
The quarterback was hyped and made sure that his teammates knew how much he appreciated them. “Love you boys…proud to be a part of this team. That defense, keep doing your thing, boys. That’s just five; that’s just give; we’re doing this; keep on fu**ing going.” Goff, whose birthday was on the 14th of October, could not have asked for a better present than a victory.
It is remarkable to see the manner in which Dan Campbell has managed to turn the entire Detroit Lions franchise around. This is the same franchise that won 5 games in 2020, 3 games in 2021, and 9 games in 2022. This year, they are legit, and the team’s defense is easily in the top 10 in the NFL right now. It is impressive how Detroit has managed to limit teams to just throwing the ball this season, as teams have managed to earn just 68.4 yards rushing per game against them, as per Oddschecker.
This Lions squad is young and hungry. From day 1 of the season, the team has been viewing itself as the underdogs of this league and has been hungry to make a statement. The Lions look well-suited to make a serious playoff push this season, and the team has very good odds to win at least six more games this season if they continue to play like this.
